3-4-11: Taghakic, Copake, Philmont, Hillsdale, Stuyvesant, etc. TERM LIMITS TIME! what a mess, columbia county government

BadThe Skate Factory is closed! This is horrible! How can I break this to my son? And the Eastern Mountain Lion is officially extinct. More terrible news. Good: Across the river, a Pagan house of worship gets tax-exempt status despite the systematic mistreatment by Catskill. A victory for the constitution. Indifferent: Meanwhile, my son and I penned a short story to explain the last 5,000 years... a true myth. Athos, the god of shadows, versus Orpheus, the god of paper.

Are there any historical plaques or markers near your house?

Back across the river.

Tagkanic anti-semitic slur story continues. Nice letter, Parry Teasdale.

Old DWI Claverack popped up on my google alert, marijuana too. I had a week back there with three people driving off the road DWI style.

Germantown versus New Lebanon in basketball. Who won?

What is this in Ghent? Looks dangerous.

Speaking of Taghkanic, seems like the rich guy who wants to build a motorcycle track got the final okay and is all set to go. The track is just for him. Really rich.

I know Stuyvesant is dirty. Now that I know what a corrupt town looks like, I'm seeing some stuff I don't like in other towns.

Taghkakic: The supervisor has been in power for 20 years. WAY TOO LONG. The town attorney is also the county attorney. CONFLICT OF INTEREST. The assessor, when speaking to a Jewish resident, talks about how be "jewed the price down" and refuses to apologize. The supervisor justifies the slur by saying she has known the assessor for 50 years. Why would the amount of time you know him matter? It might matter to you, but why should it matter to me? I get these kinds of arguments all the time and they drive me bananas because they are not responses to the point at hand but admissions or suggestion that the speaker, in this case the Taghkanic supervisor  Betty Young, has a world view of who are and are not legitimate people... Oh, but it's not that bad... I mean I've lived here my whole life... but I know him really well.. but he's a good guy... but isn't it beautiful around here?... Fine, but who cares? It's not an argument on the topic at hand.

The assessments in this town appear to be very ODD. Who exactly did he jew down or crony up? What was that about denying people the right to vote? And where did the ethics charge against Robert Fitzsimmons go? I was a rather substantial charge. Did it just fall away like so many things?

Betty Young, Taghkanic, is majority leader in the Columbia County Board of Supervisors.

Valerie Bertram is Chair of the Ethics Board.

They embraced when Betty Young gave Valerie Bertram the post of deputy majority chair.

"Taghkanic Supervisor Elizabeth “Betty” Young will retain her title of Republican majority leader on the BOS, and Stuyvesant Supervisor Valerie Bertram will continue on as her deputy. They embraced during a ten-minute recess at the meeting — Bertram thanked Young for appointing her again. “I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Young responded."

Philmont: Is no one going to get on a referendum about this town garage. Trust me, Philmont, you don't need a new garage for $600,000. Stop this sucker with a referendum now! Don't make me go to Philmont and read the permissive referendum law like I did in Stuyvesant. After this little exchange, the town garage project in Stuyvesant hit a brick wall. "The board took no action on the proposal Monday, but expects to schedule a public hearing on a bond resolution before spring. Plans for the new building can be viewed at the village office on Main Street during business hours."

Bond issue = referendum! Red Alert!!!!! Action!!!

Copake: What's up with... so much. There's this. And what is this? Are town officials helping themselves to free gas? Copake needs a more complete analysis when I get it figured all the way out.

Wait, who is the attorney for Copake?

Ethics complaint in Taghkanic falls away into nothing. Ethics board in Copake disputed, strange lawyer changes, assessor's office changed to be less responsive to voters... among other issues I hope to figure out. Stuyvesant supervisor attacks someone for bring an ethics situation to her attention while sitting as chair of the County Ethics Board. And what about the county buying all this useless property for millions and the Art Baer fiasco with the Ethics Board and ... Hillsdale and the highway superintendent and the resolution against him...

What a stinking mess this place is. I have to get it all straight, scheme after scheme, schemer after schemer.

Wednesday, March 9 -- BOS - Full Board - Board of Supervisors: This one is after the public comments. I think I should go and press my ethics charges against Valerie Bertram, supervisor of the town of Stuyvesant.

TERM LIMITS, PEOPLE! Let's clean house, people.

Which Chatham is this musical in?

This could be big, in small print. Or nothing much.
